为了扩展知识，结交朋友和信息共享，由女王大学几名博士生和博士后发起，构建一个多学科论坛。每两个星期组织一次活动，活动主要分为两部分，第一部分由一名主讲人做报告（报告通俗易懂，参与者不需要与主讲人具有一样的专业背景），第二部分就是自由交流。

主讲内容：
Title: ‘Water is precious’
Abstract:
Within developed countries we take for granted that water is always there when we turn on the tap. The idea that there is no water is not acceptable and one tends to ring to complain immediately. When Northern Ireland experienced freezing condition for a few weeks in December 2010 and a quick thaw in January 2011 it resulted in numerous burst pipes and a water shortage and restriction was put in place as an emergency measure. There was a public outcry, some people with medical conditions suffered while others have to queue for water. Water is previous! Most people can live without food for days but not having water to drink for even a day can result in real hardship. What about washing, cleaning, farming, manufacturing and running a business? It seems quite unbearable without water.
